  1. I like what you said about this film being the original “Chinatown”. That hadn’t occurred to me, but I’m going to keep that in mind the next time I see this film.

    Everyone in this film is fascinating, no? Brilliant casting, and I love the pairing of Cotten and Welles. You’re right about Cotten’s performance – we’re just as innocent and confused as he is, in the beginning, and when he discovers the real story, his alarm becomes our own.
